Causes and Management of Dementia

Abstract
|
|
|
Dementia is not a disease entitiy but a clinical syndrome which is characterized by memory decline and other cognitive dysfunotions. A variety of conditions, from neurodegenerative diseases to environmental toxins, may result in dementia.
Intensive
explorations into possible causes of dementia should be made in individual patients because about 20% of all patients with dementia may have reversible causes. Although, thus far, there is no satisfactory cognitive-acting drug, behavioral
disturbances
associated with dementia can be modulated by adequate uses of psychotropic drugs.
